Work Placement
Graduates of this course are eligible for a one month work placement with a graphic design company. All placements are made in the greater London, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh areas.

- You will be graded on 6 summative assessments in this course. At key points in your learning journey, you will receive formative feedback for assignments you complete. Each assignment is designed to track your comprehension of essential content and the development of your graphic design practice.

The British Academy of Graphic Design has partnered with global educational experts Pearson Education to offer BTEC courses to our students. These courses are a recognised route to university, leading to the final year of a degree course or progression on to other professional qualifications.
Completing this course will enable you to move on to specific areas of graphic design at BA Degree level, or to enter employment with the qualities and abilities necessary for roles that require personal responsibility and decision-making. You will learn how to develop and apply your own ideas to your studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore solutions, demonstrate critical evaluation and use both theory and practice in a wide range of graphic design situations.
Designed around a series of practical assignment briefs, you will incrementally develop the skills, advanced techniques and deep understanding of the industry that you need to succeed as agraphic design professional.
As a classroom-based student you will attend tutor-led classes taught by industry professionals. You will also have full access to our student area, the Online Learning Centre, which contains course material created by industry experts including instructional videos, written content and assignments.
Our tutors provide all the support, knowledge and in-depth feedback you need to progress through your course and are always contactable through the Online Learning Centre.
A student studying 15 hours per week can complete the course in 36 months, A student studying 30 hours can complete the course in 18 months.
*Completion time is calculated based on the required 2400 hours of study. Students have up to four years to complete the course.

In addition to "Process & Practice," which is covered in the Higher National Certificate, this course includes "Professional Creative Practice" a module that contains two assessment units (i) Personal Professional Development (45 credits) and (ii) Professional Project (75 credits). Each unit is designed to teach essential content while enabling you to develop your graphic design practice.

Essential Content
The Higher National Diploma will enable you to build your creative, technical and contextual knowledge and skills and to apply them to more complex and professionally focused projects. You will explore both the creative and technical aspects of graphic design practice; developing projects and professional skills that will build assets that could be used to curate a portfolio of professional practice.
Your learning journey will equip you with the knowledge and understanding of the underlying concepts and practices associated with Graphic Design, based on historic and contemporary precedent. This includes the creative approaches of others in context, cultural and critical concepts, graphic design economies, and the critical contextualising of your work.
You will learn how to develop propositions and evaluate creative solutions based on research and analysis. You will develop skills in visual asset design, print-based design, user-based design, time-based design, and quality assurance. Importantly, you will learn how to determine the appropriate skills to complete specific creative projects.As graphic design is all about communication, you will learn how to best communicate a range of information to a variety of audiences and be able to select the most appropriate communication methods.
The course prepares you for professional practice in the industry including how to work with stakeholders and creative partners. You will learn how to plan creative projects using project management tools. You will also learn basic business management including company types, legislation and planning.
